Rudo y Cursi y Cinema Tuesdays

We’ve had a lot of fun designing the experiences that surround our Cinema Tuesdays films. The idea of the series is the ultimate night at the movies - we’ve got complimentary popcorn and candy, drinks courtesy of Belvedere and more often than not the director of the film on hand for a Q&A.

Whenever possible we try to throw in a special surprise like a micro art show, a flipbook of a Blu mural in action, or a surprise raffle of a surfboard by Rob Machado.

Our May 5th screening of Carlos Cuarón’s soccer comedy Rudo y Cursi was especially fun - we kicked off (pun intended) with the above video from lead actors Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna. While Diego’s kick appeared to send the ball all the way to the Montalbán, in fact he nearly took out a paprazzo hiding in the bushes of the Four Seasons.

But we saved the best surprise for last: during the post film Q&A with Carlos we called out ticket numbers for our raffle bringing two audience members on stage (who had no idea what they were in for). While Carlos described why the penalty kick scene was his favorite of the film the screen rose to reveal a full size soccer goal.

The two audience members (soccer novices it must be said) were in engaged in a best of five Penalty Kick Shootout.

The prize – an all-expenses paid 7 day trip for two to Cancun courtesy of Apple Vacations. Special thanks to the Mexican Tourism Board.

Meanwhile the loser received Cup Noodles “with real shrimp.” (huh what? go see the film).
