AUGUST 2008 CALENDAR
AUGUST 12 – 8:00 pm
DIRECTOR Aaron Rose and Joshua Leonard
(Los Angeles Premiere)
Beautiful Losers celebrates the spirit behind one of the most influential cultural movements of a generation. In the early 1990s a loose-knit group of likeminded outsiders found common ground at a little NYC gallery. Rooted in do-it-yourself subcultures of skateboarding, surf, punk, hip hop and graffiti, they made art that reflected lifestyles they led.
Filmmaker Aaron Rose will lead a Q&A with artists Mike Mills and Ed Templeton. A post-screening reception will feature a live performance by Money Mark, who scored the film, plus special guest DJ Squeak E. Clean.
AUGUST 19 – 8:00 pm
DIRECTOR Kon Ichikawa
A spectacle of magnificent proportions, the late Kon Ichikawa’s Tokyo Olympiad ranks among the greatest documentation of sports ever committed to film. Utilizing glorious widescreen cinematography, Ichikawa examines the beauty and rich drama on display of the 1964 Summer Games in Tokyo, creating a catalogue of extraordinary observations that range from the expansive to the intimate.

DIRECTOR Brett Simon
(Sneak Peak/Film Opens Early 2009)
AHSP follows a mystery that happens at St. Donovan’s High where life isn’t always about dances, keg parties and sucking face in your parents’ mini-van. When senior hottie Francesca Facchini (Mischa Barton) solicits Bobby Funke’s (Reece Thompson) help tracking down a set of stolen SATs, he uncovers something big. Did the president really steal the SATs? Or is Funke just a pawn in a conspiracy as complicated as adolescence itself?
Director Brett Simon will be on hand to introduce the film with special guests from the cast.
